Qashqai rug from south west Persia (Iran)
Age: circa 1900
Size: 7′.10″x5′.2″ (239×157 cm)
The red hexagonal sub-field is edged by double live of hooks,and is uniformly filled with an allover pattern of double flowers,rosettes,stems and other interesting elements.Dark blue corners of the field display ivory escutcheons,supported by small flowers and plantal forms.There are numerous humanoid figures scattered in the field.The blue main border is decorated with outward facing palmettes alternating with inward palmettes bracketed by bent leaves.There are two ivory minor borders with reciprocal V patterns and two barber pole lines in the border system.At each end is a narrow ivory and navy checkerboard extra border.The characteristic stripe overcast edging is intact.The weave is tight and handle is leathery.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
