Kuba rug from Kuba district, eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1273: 1856 Christian date

Size: 4′.0″x2′.7″ (122×79 cm)

This east Caucasian scatter shows a navy field with a pattern of offset columns of house shaped arrowheads.Detail colors include:shades of red,shades of blue,green,yellow,brown,ivory and fuchsine.The abrashed red main border employs separated floating leaves.The inner ivory minor border presents a chain of hexagons enclosing diamonds in various colors.The outermost minor border hosts reversing carnations on a dark blue ground.The rug bears a date of 1273.There are five narrow barber pole lines in red and ivory and black and yellow in the border system.The blue selvedges are intact.The weave is tight and compact.The colors are harmonious and attractive.The piece is in good condition.
