Konagkend rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian sea

Size: 4′.11″x4′.0″ (150×122 cm)
The navy field shows stepped medallions in red,ivory,blue along with ashiks,tiny animals,diamonds,dots,stars,boxes,crosses,octagons and lazy S’s.The tripartite necked prayer niche also is done in dark blue and shows two octagons and a terminal square.The keyhole complex is edged by an ivory border with a reversing comb pattern and there are stars,small animals,diamonds and octagons in the panel.The piece is illegibly dated.The center field is decorated with colorful triangles in red,yellow and ivory.The striped red border is rendered in red,navy,yellow,blue and camel.The secondary borders show small stepped diamonds on yellow grounds.The pale blue outermost border hosts a connected ribbon pattern.There is a solid red line and five barber pole bands in the border system.The weave is fine and compact.All the colors are from natural sources.At each end is a blue kilim finishing.The piece is in good condition.
