Khamseh bird rug from south west Persia (Iran)

Size: 4′.7″x3′.5″ (140×104 cm)

This extremely finely woven high quality tribal piece shows a navy field uniformly decorated with characteristic Khamseh chickens.In addition there are other smaller birds and a variety of upright flowers along with lesser stylized rosettes.At the top corners of the field are the numbers 13;introducing a date of 1313 =1895.The attractive main border shows connected blue elements along with tiny boxes.The flanking golden minor borders host bars and tiny flowers.There are four navy and ivory dotted narrow lines in the border system.The red and green selvedges are original and intact.At each end is a pile panel in red and green.The wool is extremely lustrous and the weave is extremely tight.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
