Khamseh rug from south west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1880

Size: 6′.3″x4′.2″ (191×127 cm)

This high quality south west Persian tribal rug shows a bicolor narrow striped pattern in navy and ivory,with botehs and ribbons.There are seven patterned borders,the widest of which is red with an anchor and a star design.There are two yellow secondary borders with reversing stylized palmettes.In addition there are four navy tertiary quincunx borders.At each end is a Qashqai style navy,ivory and red checkerboard bands.The banded multicolor selvedges are intact.The weave is exeptionally fine for the type and the wool is soft and velvety.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good pile and condition.SOLD
