Pair of Shahsavan piled bags from Moghan Savalan area,southeast Caucasus

Age: circa 1850

Size: 3′.11″x1′.8″ (119×51 cm)

Probably creation of two distinct weavers this complete pair of saddle bags hosts a colorful ivory diamond lattice with enclosed sections in yellow,navy,shades of blue,shades of green,peach and burgundy.One bag was accomplished by a practice weaver while the second one shows several irregularities including incomplete main border,change of field pattern  changes in the shapes of the individual elements thereof.The barber pole lines are broken and transformed in one face.The main ivory border hosts chains of colorful diamonds.There are braided closure loops and complete or partial tabs present.The backs are striped and banded in yellow,red,black,navy,white and peach.The wool is soft and the colors are vivid.Some fuchsine color present showing the high quality of the piece.The condition of this charming piece is good except for some visible minor wear.
