Zeikhour runner from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1870

Size: 9′.9″x3′.11″ (297×119 cm)

The royal blue ground employs four complete St.Andrew’s crosses enclosing rosettes.In addition there are central octagons and numerous supporting rosettes.At the crossings are floral projections.In a hue similar to the blue field are green triangular reserves at the sides.A saturated yellow is present throughout.The Zeikhour border system includes an outer ivory and blue wave pattern and inner with connected red and rose meander.At each end is a green soumak finish same color as the selvedges.Furthermore,there is a finishing warp net at the ends.All the colors are from natural and vegetable sources.The piece is in good condition except for some loose selvedges.
