Zeikhour rug from eastern Caucasus

Age: circa 1870

Measurements: 6′.7"x3′.10" (201×117 cm)

The sapphire blue field is closely covered with rows of colorful carnations.Yellow appears in most flowers except the bottom row which is only in rose,red and green.The medium blue ground of the inner border is decorated with an ivory running dog motif.There are small mihrab shaped fillers striped in various pile colors accenting the running dogs.The medium blue main border has an unusual pattern of colorful six pointed elements.There is an abrashed red narrow outer border with green and blue "S" pattern.At each end of the field is a yellow sawtooth pattern which appears irregularly on the sides.The colors are from natural sources.The condition is good and the woven ends are present.
