A piled rug from western Anatolia (Turkey)

Size: 6′.1″x5′.3″ (185×160 cm)
This very unique west Anatolian village rug shows an ivory field centered by a hexagonal red panel in which are stylized flowers,octagons,quartered squares,stars,Memling Guls and a central hooked cruciform.At each side are double truncated columns in aubergine and light red.In the field corners are doubled arabesque leaves in red,blue and green.There are tertiary motifs including small diamonds,quincunxes,triangles,boxes and other interesting elements.In each doubled arabesque is a snowflake like motif.The ivory main border displays a chain of hexagonal reserves,cartouches enclosing rosettes and flowers.Arrays of filler triangles closely pattern the defined areas.The inner and outer dark brown minor borders feature colorful rosettes.The alternate warps are partially depressed a very unusual feature of Anatolian village weaving.At the bottom end is a red and dark brown flatwoven band.The edges are banded in pile colors.The handle is chunky and meaty.The border system follows the strip style protocol.The colors are beautiful and the condition is good except for some old repairs.SOLD
