Shirvan rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 5′.11"x3′.7" (180×109 cm)
The abrashed tomato red field displays three slightly flattened cogwheel medallions supported by ivory shrubs,diamonds,color samplers and lazy S’s.The main medallions are detailed in navy,blue,yellow and ivory.At the top end of the red field is a row of five rosettes in various colors.The ivory main border hosts a classic Caucasian slant leaf and chalice design and is flanked by reversing carnation minor borders in dark brown and red.In addition there are ivory secondary minor borders with connected S’s.There are several solid lines in the border system.The weft is cotton and the warp is wool.At each end is an ivory cotton flatweave.Ther handle is mode flexible.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
