Shirvan prayer rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1875

Measurements: 4′.10"x4′.4" (147×132 cm)

Of particularly generous dimensions,this ivory ground Shirvan prayer rug has a floral lattice continuing from field to spandrels.The pointed niche arch has sawtooth edges and a pattern of stepped crosses and V shapes which is repeated in the minor borders.The red main border has a barred S pattern.At the bottom end the outer minor border changes to a cross and wave design.There is an inner two tone reciprocal and an open red sawtooth border next to the field.There are four barber pole lines present.The piece has a narrow ivory kilim strip at each end and partial knotted warp nets.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition of this attractive rug is good.SOLD
