A reverse soumak pattern has been translated into pile in this highly unusual piece.The field is totally connected by a flattened hexagonal tile pattern in which stepped lozenges in blue,red,ivory,navy,yellow and burgundy are set on reserves in the same colors.The ivory main and only border shows connected hexagons enclosing S’s in various colors.There are two barber pole narrow lines in red and blue in the border system.At one end is a wide dark blue flatweave.The plainweave back is equally striped in red and blue.The wool is soft and the pile is high.All the colors are from natural and vegetable sources.The piece is in good condition.
