Shahsavan soumak bag from Moghan Savalan,south Caucasus

Age: circa 1840

Size: 1′.9″x1′.9″ (53×53 cm)

This iconic four arrow design,finely woven saddle bagface shows a highly desirable cruciform motif on an ivory ground.In each corner is a quartered medallion with an internal radiating stylized flowers.There are small simplified herringbone elements supporting the medallions.Colors include:shades of red,green,honey,shades of blue and dark brown.The main border presents squares enclosing octagons which further enclose hooked motifs in various saturated colors.The flanking minor borders are in blue and ivory and possess identical star and bar design.The piece is closely and tightly woven.All the colors are from natural sources.It is in good condition except for some minor bites visible on the picture.SOLD
