Qashqai rug  from Fars Province,south west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1890

Size: 6′.4″x3′.10″ (193×117 cm)

The blue field hosts a diagonal pattern of open floriated stylized botehs in red,ivory,blue,black and yellow.The red corners all display stylized botehs and the red sides display a floral wave patterns.In the sides and the field are small rosettes in various colors.The ivory main border shows a classic Qashqai meander and reversing palmette pattern.The minor borders in red and peach employ rosettes and meanders.There are four tertiary narrow borders with different patterns.The outermost striped border varies in with the lower right corner.It is partially narrow,an irregularity sought after by connoisseurs.At the top end is a beige flatwoven band followed by knots and the sides are in red and yellow and blue and rose.All the colors are from natural sources.The wool is soft and the handle is pliable.The piece is in good pile and condition.
