Qashqai rug from south west Persia (Iran)

Size: 6′.7″x3′.3″ (201×99 cm)

This unusually formatted south west Persian dozar scatter rug shows a medium blue ground supporting an offset three column Herati design of open diamonds,palmettes,rosettes and sawtooth leaves.In addition there are animals,rosettes,pendants,hatched diamonds and other interesting elements.Diagonally opposed triangular corners are done in red and warm yellow,enclosing interesting and attractive devices.The ivory main border employs rosettes,a leaf meander and double triangular brackets in attractive colors.The blue secondary border shows rosettes and small ivory diagonal bars.There are three tertiary borders with red and blue accents.At each end is a weft float checkerboard design followed by a striped finish in pile colors.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition except for some small holes and localized wear.
