Piled bag from Persia,possibly Shahsavan

Age: circa 1870

Size: 1′.8"x1′.9" (51×53 cm)

The blue field abrashes from navy to medium blue and displays two complete and two half nested hooked lozenges in:ecru,medium blue,burgundy,brick,royal blue,navy,black and yellow.In addition there are two quincunxes and other small geometric elements.The arrowhead reciprocal main border is colored in brick and blue and is flanked by two dotted barber pole lines.The plainweave back is striped in medium blue,yellow,red and dark brown.The closure tabs are present and wide selvedges are mostly original.The handle is extremely soft and pliable.All the colors are from natural and vegetable sources.The piece is in good condition except for minor problems like minor wear and corner chip.
