Marasali prayer rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

The navy ground displays colorful botehs with sharply serrated edges in offset multicolor rows including a very attractive green.The pattern continues into the spandrels.The ivory niche arch floats freely from the borders and is generally surrounded by a strong serration.A further serration in green is present along the edges of the field.The classic ivory main border hosts characteristic Marasali boteh/pigeon motif.There is a wide minor band in between the center field and the borders with stylized crosses in various colors.The flanking navy minor borders both display a small diamond pattern.There are four black and white barber pole lines along with a quincunx band in the border system.At each end is a flatwoven finish.Colors are vibrant and alive.The condition of this attractive piece is good.
