Marasali prayer rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

The attractive yellow field shows a diamond leaf lattice enclosing a variety of stylized flowers in necklace pattern.The pattern and colors continue through then spandrels.The pointed wide niche arch displays pigeons/botehs and other geometric elements too with a pendant.The ivory main border features additional pigeon/boteh joined by comb like devices.The outer dark brown minor border features colorful rosettes while the inner is a bitonal reciprocal in blue and dark brown.There are three barber pole lines in the border system.This is a particularly fine and rare Marasali prayer rug.At each end of the rug is a narrow tan flatweave followed by a knotted warp net.The piece is tight and compact.All the colors are from natural sources including the camel.The rug is in good pile and condition.
