Pair of Luri saddle bags from Fars Province,south west Persia (Iran)
Age: circa 1890
Size: 4′.0″x1′.9″ (122×53 cm)
This completely intact set shows faces in 3×3 layouts of octagons enclosing stars in red,green,ivory,burgundy,yellow and blue.The main border displays quincunxes in differently colored squares.The inner border hosts a slanted comb pattern in ivory and navy.There is a red and green similarly patterned outer border.At each end of the pile area is a piled checkerboard navy and ivory strip followed by herringbone soumak closure tabs,followed by a weft float checkerboard panel.The flatwoven backs are striped in numerous colors and at the sides are chains of kilim triangles.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
