Lesghi rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1890

Size: 4′.7″x3′.6″ (140×107 cm)

The tripartite dark blue field displays two ivory and a central red Lesghi stars with blue and green details.The panels are framed and separated by an ivory stripwork with a multicolor hooked cross design.In the field a scattering of lazy S’s,stylized plants,tiny diamonds and corner boxes are present.The ivory main border hosts disc motif separated by a pair of black hooked elements.The inner and outer minor borders in blue employ floating rosettes in various colors.There are four barber pole lines in the border system.At each end is a dark blue kilim band followed by a warp net.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good pile and condition.
