Lesghi rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus

Age: circa 1880

Dimensions: 5′.3"x3′.8" (160×112 cm)

The rich brown field displays two characteristic ivory and dark blue,and two red and green Lesghi stars.At the top of the brown field is an extra panel of hooked lozenges..Chunky crosshatch elements neatly occupy the remainder of the field.There are five significant patterned borders of which the most important is the colorful ivory ground crab design main border.Two flanking minors have striped segment motifs,while an inner border has an octagon and star design and the innermost ivory frame has a leaf and hexagon chain.There are five barber poles and three solid blue lines.The colors are vibrant.The condition of the rug is good and the brown is naturally corroded.SOLD
