Kuba runner from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 13′.0″x3′.6″ (396×107 cm)

The dark brown field displays a diamond lattice defined by diagonal leaves and enclosing a mixture of flowers and geometric devices.The side fillers include: flowers,leaves,a barber pole fragment,triangles and other interesting elements.The extremely colorful main border shows a crab pattern on an ivory field.The colors include:shades of red,shades of blue,yellow,camel,burgundy,shades of green,dark brown and cochineal.At the top right corner of the main border is a date of 1293.It is flanked by minor borders showing segmented striped patterns and there is an innermost ivory band with a chain of hexagons surrounding the field.There are eight barber pole lines in the border system.At both ends are soumak bands followed by fully knotted warp nets.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good pile and condition except for the replaced selvedges.The runner is folded in the middle to fit the camera.
