Kuba rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1248=1832

Size: 5′.6″x3′.9″ (168×114 cm)

The ivory field is particularly well decorated with:squares,ashiks,cloudbands,stylized leaves,pendants,diamonds,various hooked elements,combs,quincunxes and a myriad of other interesting elements in various colors including a lavish aubergine.In addition there are two dates and an inscription.The ivory main border shows colored stars.The inner secondary ivory border hosts chains of stepped rosettes.There are two tertiary blue and black keyhole reciprocal bands and eight bitonal barber pole lines and finally a narrow red and green hooked innermost line in the border system.The blue selvedges are intact and continue to soumak end finishes followed by knotted warp nets.The weave is fine and compact.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
