Kuba rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1875

Size: 4′.10″x3′.9″ (147×114 cm)

The ivory field displays three columns of geometric cloudbands,ashiks and hexagram medallions.The background is decorated with lazy S’s,stylized flowers,stars,rosettes and other interesting elements.The ivory main border hosts floating colorful ashiks and small triangles.The ivory innermost frame displays connected lozenges enclosing rosettes.In addition there are two reciprocal tertiary borders in black and blue.There are seven narrow lines in the border system including three pairs of two tone barber pole bands.At both ends are narrow soumak lines followed by wider macrame warp bands.The handle is firm and the weave is fine.All the colors including the beautiful aubergine are from natural and vegetable sources.The condition is good except for the missing side cords.SOLD
