Kuba rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1880

Dimensions of the rug: 6′.6"x3′.8" (198×112 cm)

The navy field is decorated with seven connected lozenges each outlined in white and with different internal fillers:tiny botehs,small flowers,chevrons,quartered diamonds,complex stars and diminutive hooked boxes.The reserves are closely filled with a charming scatter of human figures,animals,flowers,stars,combs,and other small devices.The unusual ivory main border is patterned by multicolor stylized seahorse motifs supported by triangular secondary elements.There are three minor borders:an innermost ivory border of connected hexagons,followed by a medium blue band of geometric rosettes and an outermost surround with groups of colorful diagonal stripes.The colors are vivid and some fuchsine is present.The condition is very good.SOLD
