Kazak prayer rug from southwest Caucasus,Armenia

This unusual Fachralo group prayer rug shows a red field closely covered by a pole medallion consisting of two cartouches,a hexagon and a topmost niche shape panel.The medallion is outlined in ivory with a step or square meander pattern.There are eight big and two small deeply curled angular hooks edging the pole medallion.Secondary elements include:stars,lazy S’s,ribbons,dots and flowers,both within and surrounding the pole medallion.Green,red,yellow and blue are the medallion colors.The ivory main border employs a dynamic S-volute pattern and is flanked by red and blue keyhole reciprocal minor borders.There are four barber pole narrow lines in the border system.At each end is a flatwoven finish and most of the original warp loops are present at the lower end.All the colors are from natural sources.The handle is soft and pliable.The rug is in good pile and condition.
