4' 6" x 3' 10" (137 x 117 cm)

Fachralo Kazak rug from Armenia, southwest Caucasus

Age: circa 1880

Size: 4′.6″x3′.10″ (137×117 cm)

Whereas almost all small Fachralo rugs are in prayer format this example shows a strictly secular design. The tomato red field employs a bug palmette pattern supporting a royal blue central panel enclosing a nested red and white cartouche with a focal cruciform ram’s horn element. The blue panel is edged by a yellow zig zag border. The ivory main border shows the characteristic stepped triangle and sawtooth leaf pattern in green, red, yellow and blue.It is flanked by minor borders with green and blue grounds and colorful dot patterns. There are four bitonal barber pole lines in the border system. The handle is  pliable, chunky and meaty. All the colors are from natural sources. The piece is in good condition.SOLD

THROUGH OUR EFFORTS TO PROVIDE THE HIGHEST QUALITY IMAGES, WE USE VERY HIGH RESOLUTION PHOTOS. IF YOU CANNOT SEE THE WHOLE RUG PLEASE TRY REFRESHING THE PAGE – SOME LONG RUGS MAY NOT FIT WITHOUT ZOOMING.
