Eagle,Chelaberd or Sunburst Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus,Armenia

Age: circa 1870

Size: 6′.8″x4′.10″ (203×147 cm)

The deep red madder field displays two complete characteristic sunburst medallions in ivory,light green and blue.At one end is a fractional third medallion.Small animals,flowers,boxes,dots,rosettes and minor elements occupy the field.The very unusual abrashed main border shows blue and naturally corroded dark brown keyhole reciprocal.The outer red border is in S pattern while the inner minor border started with the same design it switches to red and white dash pattern line,an irregularity sought after by collectors.The most unusual detail is the male and female figures at the bottom corners of the red field.The handle is chunky and the weave is moderately fine.All the colors are from natural sources including the rare shade of brown and burnt orange.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
