Pair of Bidjar saddlebags from North Persia (Iran)
Age: circa 1885
Size: 2′.4″x1′.2″ (71×36 cm)
Both ivory fields display detached rosette,palmette and compound boteh patterns in red,rose,blue,yellow,green and navy.In addition there is an arrow,a diamond and fractional rosettes.Around the outer edges of both fields are sawtooth patterns.The narrow navy main border shows an abstract floral pattern.There are two mixed color barber pole and one solid lines in the border system.The classic loops are partially intact.The beige color bridge is deeply ribbed as expected in Bidjar weavings.The original backs are striped in brown shades on beige.The weaving techniques are unusual in that a soumak and kilim weavings are both present.The red and navy side cords are present enough for original sections at one end.The construction is all wool and the handle is robust.All the colors are from natural and vegetable sources.The condition of this charming collectable piece is good except for an old small repair on the blue border.SOLD
