Bidjar rug from north west Persia (Iran),Kurdistan province

Age: circa 1890

Dimensions: 6′.5"x4′.3" (196×130 cm)

This well woven Bidjar scatter has a dense Herati pattern on a madder red ground.The pendanted eight point medallion displays bunches of roses and a central yellow en suite submedallion.In addition the four corners closely mirror the medallion.Among the detail colors are a peach,a navy,a light blue and a golden yellow.The red main border has an undulating green scroll embracing blue leaves and small rosettes.The ivory minor borders reiterate the scroll concept in simpler form with palmettes and buds.There is a narrow navy line surrounding the whole and the ends have soumak technique end braid finishings.The rug is heavy and solid as expected.The foundation is all wool.The colors are from natural sources.The condition of this Bidjar rug is very good.SOLD
