Bergama rug from western Anatolia (Turkey)
Age: circa 1800
Size: 6′.5"x5′.1" (196×180 cm)
A skeletal open hexagonal ivory medallion displays an inner pale yellow,dark blue and green nested hexagonal sub-medallion enclosing an edge with hooks and surrounded by a complex array of stylized flowers.The abrashed royal blue corners display stars,diamonds and rosettes and are topped by hooks of varying lengths.Along the outer edges of the corners are various small diamond patterns.In addition there are cartouche shape pendants in green,blue,ivory and red.At the sides of the medallion are dark blue ashiks with ram’s horns.The borders are characteristically Bergama with a central stripe of octagon and stars on a blue and green ground,while the flanking minor borders have a triangle and small square chain patterns.The handle is soft and pliable.All the colors are from natural sources.The rug is in good pile and condition except for some loss at the bottom end,a few holes and some low pile sections.A true collectable item.SOLD
