2' 4" x 1' 3" (71 x 38 cm)

The navy blue field shows diagonals of stylized small peacocks in ivory, aubergine and red.Usually the birds are larger and centered by an ivory bird. This arrangement is most unusual. In addition there are a few small geometric elements in the field. The main border is a bitonal keyhole reciprocal in light red and navy. There are two black and white barber pole lines present. At both ends of the knotted panel are ivory soumak technique bands with diagonal bars,.The original back shows stripes in kilim technique and twining in shades of red, ivory, aubergine and dark brown.Five of the stripes show angular meanders and one of them is paneled in oblique sections. The back is extremely elaborate and shows great care in the execution of this rare piece. All the colors are from natural sources. The handle is soft and pliable. The condition is good with minor wear.
