Akstafa prayer rug from southeast Caucasus

Size: 5′.11″x3′.0″ (180×91 cm)

This Caucasian prayer rug displays an unusual faceted blue floating niche arch decorated with a colorful X pattern.Below the apex is a rosery and comb.The ivory ground continues into the spandrels.It supports a dark brown serrated diamond trellis enclosing octagons,hooked lozenges,stylized flowers as well as small birds and animals.The spandrels continue the field pattern,but on a smaller scale.The dark brown main border shows a double anchor design in various colors and is flanked by green and red and blue and red keyhole reciprocals.There are several solid lines in the border system.At each end is a remaining of a narrow kilim strip.At the bottom end many warp loops are still intact.The colors are vibrant and alive.The condition of the piece is okay except for some minor problems visible from the image.SOLD
