Afshar saddle bag from south east Persia (Iran)

Dimensions: 1′.5"x1′.7" (43×48 cm)

The navy field of this unusual Afshar saddle bag displays an off center geometric design of stepped crosses,sawtooth leaves and triangular striped elements.There are tiny stylized flowers and cruciforms scattered about.The central medium blue border has a palmette and vine pattern and is flanked by ivory guards with connected multicolor boxes.The colorful soumak closure slit band is intact and is flanked by additional soumak arrowhead pattern stripes.The flatwoven back is partially striped in brown,red,green, golden yellow,light blue,burnt orange and burgundy.The braided black and white closure loops are intact and there are additional braided tassels on the sides.All the colors are from natural and vegetable sources.The piece is in very good condition.SOLD
