Dated Kazak prayer rug from southwest Caucasus

Size: 5′.2″x2′.9″ (157×84 cm)

This short warp Kazak piece displays a prayer design consisting of a red panel with a central ivory box enclosing a star and an exuberant hooked and dotted motifs,and a date panel.At each end of the field is an abrashed blue section with additional hooked motifs.The ivory main border hosts a floating chalice and slanted leaf pattern.The outer secondary border employs a red and multicolor reciprocal running dog/wave pattern.There are three barber pole narrow lines in the border system.A green innermost band shows a reciprocal zigzag pattern.The sideway/short warp technique is very rare and unusual in the Kazak district.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good pile and condition.
