Bordjalou Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus,Armenia

Age: circa 1885

Size: 7′.3″x4′.7″ (221×140 cm)

The closely covered dark brown field shows a stack of four complete nested hooked diamonds and ten partial,similar motifs at the two sides.It is bright and cheerful and the colors include:shades of red,shades of blue,green,yellow,camel,aubergine and fuchsine.The ivory main border displays floating hooked diamonds in similar shades.It is flanked by red and blue and red and abrashed green reciprocal wave patterns.There are four narrow barber pole lines in the border system.The original red weft selvedges are wide and intact.The colors are vivid.The piece is in good condition except for some dark brown corrosion and minor old repairs.
