Ivory ground Perepedil carpet from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea.

Size: 10′.0″x4′.9″ (305×145 cm)

This unusually long ivory Perepedil prayer rug displays a faceted niche arch at one end along with three identical dates and an inscription.Up the center are five octagons in red and dark blue with associated ram’s horn motifs.Each octagon shows dragon/bird like radiating palmettes.In the field are rectangles,cruciforms,rosettes,stars,lazy S’s,crosshatches and other interesting elements.Within the niche is a nested pentagonal shape and each spandrel displays an inverted flower.The dark brown main border shows a red and ivory alternations of knots and brackets in a Kufesque manner.The inner minor border is panelled with oblique striped sections in various colors.The outer ivory minor border hosts color banded S’s.Along the outer edge of the field are tiny colorful triangles.There are four red and white barber pole and two solid blue lines in the border system.This Perepedil is particularly wide and exceptionally long.At each end is a beige flatwoven band.All the colors are from natural sources including a beautiful aubergine.The condition of this rare piece is good.
