Karatchoph Kazak rug from Armenia,southwest Caucasus

The warm abrashed red ground displays the characteristic octagonal ivory medallion centered by a broad nicely abrashed green panel which is flanked by red nested squares.Dramatic hooks emanate from both the central panel and the inner edge of the octagon.There are triangular checkerboards squaring the medallion as well as four star filled ivory boxes and eight tertiary rectangular panels with nested green and yellow hooked motifs.Also in the field are human figures,animals,lazy S’s,stars,stylized flowers,and stylized botehs.The medium blue main border hosts slanted leaves alternating with colorful arrows.The flanking minor borders employ naturally corroded dark brown keyhole reciprocals.There are four red and yellow barber pole lines in the border system.At each end is a narrow dark red flatwoven finish.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good pile and condition except for minor edging problems.
