Konagkend rug from Kuba district eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 4′.8″x3′.1″ (142×94 cm)

The navy field displays the characteristic ivory Konagkend lattice pattern.The pattern includes stylized palmettes,flowers,small combs as well as other smaller interesting elements.Along the sides are randomly spaced small stars,quincunxes and diamonds.The navy blue main border shows an iconic Kufesque design.Surrounding the field is an innermost rosette frame and there are two keyhole reciprocal minor borders in black and blue.There are four densely dotted bitonal barber pole lines in the border system.All the colors are from natural sources including the green.The weave is fine and the handle is pliable.The condition of this rare piece is good with naturally corroded dark brown.
