Luri carpet (16)

9' 9" x 4' 10" (297 x 147 cm)

Luri carpet from Fars province, south west Persia (Iran)

Age: circa 1880

Dimensions: 9′.9"x4′.10" (297×147 cm)

Although less finely woven than Qashqai rugs,Luri work has a boldness and directness unmatched in Fars tribal pile carpets. Two striking red medallions with central elements derived from the "turtle" element seen in so many Persian rug borders, dominate a field closely and crazily filled with a myriad of amusing designs. The striped inner border is adapted from Persian textiles while the main light blue border has a boteh pattern. The end panels are in the popular Fars chessboard design. The rug is without restoration and in good pile. There are sections of original end kilim present.

THROUGH OUR EFFORTS TO PROVIDE THE HIGHEST QUALITY IMAGES, WE USE VERY HIGH RESOLUTION PHOTOS. IF YOU CANNOT SEE THE WHOLE RUG PLEASE TRY REFRESHING THE PAGE – SOME LONG RUGS MAY NOT FIT WITHOUT ZOOMING.
