Zejwa runner from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 9′.10″x3′.5″ (300×104 cm)
The naturally corroded dark brown ground displays in relief seven characteristic serrated Zejwa medallions in ivory,red,each of which encloses a tabbed hexagon in navy,green and red.At the ends of the field are extended hexagonal cartouches in green,and the field is filled in with pentagon shape elements.In addition are stars,lazy S’s,rosettes and other interesting devices.The ivory main border hosts an elegant and colorful version of the iconic crab design.It is flanked by red minor borders both with connected S design.There are four plain lines in the border system.At each end is a narrow soumak finishing followed by a knotted warp net.The colors are soft and the handle is leathery.The piece is in good condition.
