Lesghi rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 4′.8″x3′.7″ (142×109 cm)

The abrashed blue field presents three classic Lesghi stars in red and navy with green and dark blue accents.In the field reserves are numerous animals,hooked motifs,diamonds,stars,dots,lazy S’s,connected diamonds,herringbones etc.The ivory main border shows a bold rendition of the box and anchor repeating pattern.In one main border there is a traditional chain of small diamonds.There are two red and blue keyhole reciprocal minor borders and four barber pole narrow lines.One barber pole changes color on three sides.At each end is a narrow red soumak finishing followed by macrame band.The red wool selvedges are intact.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
