Kuba rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

The navy ground shows three columns of eight hooked diamonds,all enclosing small octagons in red,blue,ivory and yellow.The secondary elements are generally stars within small octagons or along the sides of the field even smaller octagons.Lazy S’s,tiny diamonds,quincunxes,diamonds,dots and plant forms occupy the reserves of the field.There is a keyhole reciprocal edges the field.The ivory main border shows nested triangles with hooks in various colors.The medium blue outer minor border displays connected tiny diamonds in groups of four.There are three narrow barber pole lines in the border system.The wide navy selvedges are intact and at each end is a flatwoven band followed by a wide ivory warp macrame strip.The handle is firm and leathery.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good pile and condition.
