Zeikhour rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1343:1924

Size: 6′.8″x3′.7″ (203×109 cm)

The near black ground displays two complete and one fractional St.Andrew’s crosses in blue,rose,ivory and green.In each reserve are stylized triangular flowers and other vegetal motifs.There are several additional unusual plant forms scattered about.The attractive ivory main border shows a meander anchored by rosettes and profile palmettes.At the top center of the border is a cartouche with a date and illegible inscription.The inner red border hosts colorful notched octagons enclosing simplified flowers.At each end is an incomplete macrame warp band.The sides are selvedged in dark blue wool.The colors care vivid and the condition is good with naturally corroded near black ground.
