Soumak flatwoven rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1870

Size: 6′.9"x3′.8" (206×112 cm)

The field is divided into five panels each containing an octagon in soft red or ivory each of which in term displays a Crivelli star.The corners of the panels are filled with colorful tiny diamonds.Rosettes,lazy S’s and animals decorate the spaces around the central octagon.The ivory border has a zig zag design with colorful stepped fillers.There are two S pattern minor borders,four medium blue solid lines and an outemost reciprocal red and brown wave border.At each end is a broad knotted original warp net.The colors are soft and attractive.The sides have minor problems and there are several small holes visible in the field.SOLD
