Shirvan long rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea
Age: dated 1283= 1866
Size: 9′.5″x4′.2″ (287×127 cm)
The navy field displays a five part pole medallion with external steps and internal hooks.In each section is a central rosette.The pole is edged by layers of divided squares.In the reserves are boxes containing hooked diamonds,alone Akstafa peacock,numerous small animals,crosses,stars,quincunxes and other interesting elements.The main border hosts a reciprocal crenellation with cruciform finials in ivory,navy,red,yellow and camel.The two flanking minor borders in light blue and red both display floating rosettes.The tertiary borders display S chains on two distinct shades of yellow.There are several solid lines in the border system.The selvedges are cotton and so is the weft.The handle is medium leathery.There is a date panel of 1283 and an inscription at the top part of the field.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good pile and condition except for some missing black knots around the selvedges.
