Neiriz rug from south east Persia (Iran)

The old ivory field shows a five rows of two or three rose bouquets in red and green.In addition there are fractional bouquets on both sides and small semi-geometric elements closely scattered about.The wide beautiful burnt orange main border employs a modular repeat of stylized flowers in Zili Sultan manner.Outside of this is a red secondary border with floriated botehs and there is an outermost angular undulating vine with profile flowers.There are four guard lines of which three show an S pattern and the fourth is a keyhole reciprocal.The selvedge is checkered in coral and dark blue and at each end is a broad flatwoven panel striped in pile colors.Alternate warps are depressed in an urban style and the handle is solid and compact.The colors are from natural sources.The condition of this unusual piece is good except for a small hole on the lower flatwoven end.
