Milas prayer rug from western Anatolia (Turkey)

Age: circa 1880

Size: 4′.2"x3′.6" (127×107 cm)

The ivory field is centered by a red pinched niche-form subfield with a central stylized plant motif.Above are four columns of serrated leaves.Tiny buds edge the inside of the subfield and the outer edge at the top.The complex border system includes a yellow main border with large medium and small multicolor rosettes;an outer aubergine minor border with rosette design;an inner red minor border with geometric S pattern;a green and yellow border with a flower tendril motif;three lines with various delicate colorful motifs,two reciprocal red and blue and red and aubergine narrow lines.In addition there are two barber pole lines present.At the top end is a wide red flatweave band with a partial macrame finish.All the colors are from natural sources.The condition of this charming rug is good.SOLD
