Lesghi rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 6′.9″x3′.1″ (206×94 cm)
The attractively abrashed rare yellow ground hosts six Lesghi stars in red and navy and red and green with various other colors.At the top of the yellow field are three interesting elements while at the bottom five hooked motifs are present.The ground is surrounded by multicolor triangles and there are diamonds,stars and lazy S’s scattered about.The colorful ivory crab main border is flanked by striped minor borders in red,green,blue,ivory,aubergine and camel.At the right hand side of the middle of the piece,around the main border there is a slight abrash (natural color change) where red is used instead of black to surround the motifs,an irregularity sought after by connoisseurs.There are unusually seven narrow barber pole lines in red and white and black and yellow in the border system.At each end is a flatwoven section followed by knotted warp net.All the colors are from natural and vegetable sources.The piece has a soft and pliable handle.The condition of this collectable rug is good.SOLD
