Kuba rug from eastern Caucasus,Caspian Sea

Age: dated 1330=1912

Size: 6′.0″x4′.4″ (183×132 cm)

This ivory ground Kuba rug presents an allover pattern of cloudbands,ashiks,rectangles,medallions and cartouches.There are secondary motifs including stars,leaves,lazy S’s,rosettes,arrows,diamonds.X’s and quincunxes.Colors include:shades of red;shades of blue;ivory;green;burgundy and straw.The ivory main crab design border is colored in field tones.The innermost stripe shows colorful rosettes on a dark brown.There are two black and blue keyhole reciprocal minor borders.There are eight barber pole lines and an innermost narrow red and green stripe.At each end is a navy soumak finish.The selvedges are original and intact.The piece is dated twice 1330 at the top corners of the main border.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.
